Scholarship Guidelines

WSA Players' Scholarship

  • The WSA board of directors determines the available dollar amount for ea year’s scholarship program.

  • No fewer than three and no more than six annual scholarships will be awarded

  • Awarded amounts can range from a minimum of $500 per recipient to a maximum of $1000 per recipient.

  • The maximum amount one individual may receive over a four year period will be limited to $4,000.

  • Any unused scholarship award will remain in the fund and used for future awards.

Qualifications:

  • Applicant must be in their senior year of high school in Wyoming or is attending college and player soccer at the college level.

  • Applicant must have played soccer with a WSA affiliated club/association. Affiliated association is defined as an association is good standing Wyoming Soccer. The applicant should have played soccer, either recreational or competitive, during their elementary and/or secondary school years. It is not required that the applicant play high school soccer.

  • It is not required that high school applicants play college level soccer.

  • To receive a scholarship for a second, third or fourth year, continuing college students are required to play college level soccer. Previous scholarship recipients must apply each year.

  • Applicant must be enrolled or applying for enrollment at a junior college or four year college or university.

  • Applicant must have a 2.0 or above grade point average.

  • To be considered the application, including required supplementary items, must all be received by the deadline.

Selection Criteria:

  • Financial need

  • Involvement in youth soccer, as a player, a referee, and/or a coach

  • Involvement in extracurricular activities – school and community

  • Letters of recommendation

  • Scholastic effort including gpa, attendance, and extracurricular activities


WSA ODP/307 Select Scholarships

  • These scholarships are funded purely by donations and fund raising events specifically held to benefit this program.

  • The WSA board of directors determines the available dollar amount for the coming year’s scholarships.

  • An individual’s scholarship amount will be determined by the applicant’s stated need but will not exceed $1000 or an amount determined by the program budget.

  • The maximum amount one individual may receive over a five year period will be $3,000 or an amount determined by the program budget.

  • Any unused scholarship award will remain in the fund and used for future awards.

A separate scholarship application is required for EACH program the applicant chooses to participate – the yearly program fee and West Region camp fees. See the Selection Criteria, below, for each program – they are different.

Qualifications:

  • Applicant must be continually enrolled in a school in Wyoming.

  • Previous scholarship recipients must apply each year.

  • When applying for Yearly Program Fees an applicant must have a 2.0 or above grade point average (gpa), which is based on a 4.0 scale.

  • To be considered the application, including required supplementary forms, must be received by the application deadline.

  • Awarded scholarship funds will be applied directly to the recipient’s WSA ODP/307 Select program account. No funds will be paid directly to the recipient.

Selection Criteria:

1 - WSA ODP Program Fees

  • Financial need

  • Involvement in youth soccer as a player, a referee, and/or a coach

  • Ability to volunteer with their local club to perform duties related to that club’s daily operations.

  • Applicant’s parent’s/guardian’s ability to volunteer with the applicant’s local club to perform duties related to that club’s daily operations.

  • Ability to succeed in the program, based on evaluation by WSA Technical Director, Staff and program coaches.

  • Recommendations from club and/or school soccer coach.

  • Scholastic effort including GPA, attendance, and extracurricular activities.

2 - West Region ODP Camp

  • West Region ODP camp scholarships will be awarded mainly through the WSA Technical Director’s determination on the player’s ability to succeed at camp and their chances of advancing.

  • Financial need

  • The scholarship committee has no obligation to award scholarships for West Region ODP camp.


How to Apply for a Scholarship

  • The appropriate scholarship application is to be submitted by the posted deadline.

  • No applicant for these scholarships programs will be disqualified because of gender, race, color, creed, or religious beliefs.
