GUIDELINES FOR WYS SCHOLARSHIPS

The Wyoming Youth Soccer (WYS) Scholarship Fund and the Wyoming Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program (WYS ODP) Scholarship Fund are under the direct supervision of the WYS board of directors. Each year committees composed of association members are formed and are directly responsible for administration of the programs for one application period.

Wyoming Youth Soccer (WYS) Scholarship Fund

DETAILS:

• At each budget planning session the WYS board will determine the available dollar amount for the coming year’s scholarship program.
• No fewer than three (3) and no more than six (6) annual scholarships will be awarded
• Awarded amounts can range from a minimum of $500.00 per recipient to a maximum of $1000.00 per recipient.
• The maximum amount one individual may receive over a four (4) year period will be limited to $4,000.00.
• Any unused scholarship award will remain in the fund and used for future awards.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Applicant must be in their senior year of high school in Wyoming or is attending college and player soccer at the college level.
2. Applicant must have played soccer with a WYS affiliated club/association. Affiliated association is defined as an association is good standing the Wyoming Youth Soccer. The applicant should have played soccer, either recreational or competitive, during their elementary and/or secondary school years. It is not required that the applicant play high school soccer.
3. It is not required that high school applicants play college level soccer.
4. To receive a scholarship for a second, third or fourth year, continuing college students are required to play college level soccer.
5. Previous scholarship recipients must apply each year.
6. Applicant must be enrolled or applying for enrollment at a junior college or 4 (four) year college or university.
7. Applicant must have a 2.0 or above grade point average.
8. To be considered the online application, including required supplementary items, must all be received by the application deadline.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

1. Financial need.
2. Applicant’s involvement in youth soccer, as a player, a referee, and/or a coach.
3. Applicant’s involvement in extracurricular activities – school and community.
4. Letters of recommendation
5. Scholastic effort including gpa, attendance, and extracurricular activities.

WYS ODP Scholarship Fund

DETAILS:

• The WYS ODP scholarship is funded purely by donations and fund raising events specifically held to benefit this program. At each budget planning session the WYS board will determine the available dollar amount for the coming year’s scholarship program.
• An individual’s scholarship amount will be determined by the applicant’s stated need but will not exceed $1000.00 or an amount determined by the program budget.
• The maximum amount one individual may receive over a five (5) year period will be $3,000.00 or an amount determined by the program budget.
• Any unused scholarship award will remain in the fund and used for future awards.
• A separate scholarship application is required for EACH program the applicant chooses to participate in – the yearly program fee and RIV camp fees.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Applicant must be continually enrolled in a school in Wyoming.
2. Previous scholarship recipients must apply each year.
3. When applying for Yearly Program Fees an applicant must have a 2.0 or above grade point average (gpa), which is based on a 4.0 scale.
4. To be considered the application, including required supplementary forms, must be received by the application deadline.
5. Awarded scholarship funds will be applied directly to the recipient’s WYS ODP program account. No funds will be paid directly to the recipient.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

WYS ODP Program Fees

1. Financial need.
2. Applicant’s involvement in youth soccer as a player, a referee, and/or a coach.
3. Applicant’s ability to volunteer with their local club to perform duties related to that club’s daily operations.
4. Applicant’s parent’s/guardian’s ability to volunteer with the applicant’s local club to perform duties related to that club’s daily operations.
5. Applicant’s ability to succeed in the program, based on evaluation by the WYS ODP technical director.
6. Recommendations from club and/or school soccer coach.
7. Scholastic effort including gpa, attendance, and extracurricular activities.

Region IV ODP Camp

1. Region IV camp scholarships will be awarded mainly through the WYS ODP technical director’s determination on the player’s ability to succeed at camp and their chances of advancing.
2. Financial need
3. The scholarship committee has no obligation to award scholarships for Region IV ODP camp.
